Tennessee football: Did Vols reach top of Week 4 SEC Power Rankings?
Defeated Arkansas Razorbacks 23-21
All signs were there to write off Texas A&M. Not only was that because of their loss to Appalachian State, but it’s because of what happened afterward. They gave off the perception of rebounding with a win over the Miami Hurricanes, who were in the top 25 at the time, even though they gave that game to Miami.
Then, a week later, Miami lost to the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders. MTSU and Tennessee football decided to make the Volunteer State dominant over the Sunshine State that weekend. Anyway, that made Jimbo Fisher’s Aggies look even worse, so they were destined to get blown out by Arkansas later that night.
Well, somehow, it didn’t happen. A&M pulled out a close win, and although it was somewhat lucky, you can’t ignore that it was their second straight top 25 win technically. As a result, maybe this program is back, and maybe Appalachian State was a fluke.
October will tell us that, as they visit Alabama and host Ole Miss in that month. A trip to South Carolina could be tough as well, but it actually all starts with a trip to the next team in our SEC Power Rankings, the chance to move them into the top half.
