Defeated Bowling Green Falcons 45-14

Yes, Texas A&M plays the Mississippi State Bulldogs this week. Mike Leach’s team rebounded from a tough loss to the LSU Tigers to beat the Bowling Green Falcons 45-14 over the weekend, the first team Tennessee football ever beat in the Josh Heupel era. It wasn’t a big win, but it showed this team still has it.

Honestly, there’s no shame in MSU losing on the road to LSU. They are still a good team and easily belong in the top half of our SEC Power Rankings. For the most part, the offense has figured it out under Leach, and it always takes about three to four years for things to really take off with him.

Is an SEC Championship on the table with him this year? Almost certainly not, but a top 25 finish and maybe a nine-win season is, and that’s another great stepping stone for MSU. Last week’s blowout was even more of a blowout than it looked like on paper.

That crucial battle with A&M at home next will show how far they have really come. However, then they host Arkansas and visit Kentucky and Alabama, and Georgia is still on the schedule down the road, so the going is about to get extremely rough. They need to take one or both of these next two home games.
