Left tackle

Overall, the offensive line was fine. Darnell Wright had the highest PFF grade, and the interior did a great job. However, Tennessee football has some underrated issues here. The Vols made some mistakes at left tackle with Gerald Mincey. One was a false start, but for the second time in three weeks, a Mincey holding penalty nullified a Hendon Hooker touchdown run.

Now, this is another part of Hooker’s Heisman campaign, as for the second straight time Mincey had a penalty to nullify such a run, he had a touchdown pass on the next play. Still, there are growing pains with Mincey at left tackle, and at some points, those issues will be magnified.

Tight end

Princeton Fant had a catch over the middle and then fumbled the ball. That was forgotten because, as we mentioned, the tight ends combined had over 90 yards. Jacob Warren had 45 yards and should’ve had a touchdown. Hooker’s one bad throw of the night was a sure touchdown pass that was intended for him.

However, Florida’s style of play opened the doors for Tennessee football’s tight ends to be effective. It’s not that the Vols’ tight ends will struggle in the future, but they won’t get as many looks. As a result, the position is a stock to sell.
