Tennessee football: Week 5 SEC and top 25 picks and bets during Vols’ bye
By allowing the Florida Gators to score late, Tennessee football saved us on our spread pick with them last week after we already lost the over/under. However, a brutal missed field goal by the Arkansas Razorbacks cost us a moneyline pick and an extra win on the spread. The Wake Forest Demon Deacons’ overtime loss pushed us into the negative on moneylines.
Week 4 performance (57% on spread and over/under)
- Spread: 6-4-1
- Over/Under: 6-5
- Moneyline: -11% (Lost $121.10 if $100 bet on every game)
Overall performance for the year (59.6% on spread and over/under)
- Spread: 33-19-1
- Over/Under: 29-23-1
- Moneyline: +7.3% ($348.82 profit if $100 bet on every game)
Things were so close to being way better, but we still turned a profit on gambling picks, and we are above water across the board for the year. Now, with the Vols on a bye week, things really start to pick up. UT and the Vanderbilt Commodores are on byes, and two SEC teams play FCS schools. The other 10 play each other.
Add in three non-conference top 25 games, and we’ve got 10 games to pick. Two SEC games are top 25 games, giving us five big games. Without Tennessee football, we’ll just go in the order they’re scheduled, but we’ll start with the two rescheduled SEC games due to Hurricane Ian. Both are forgettable FCS games.
During the Tennessee football Volunteers’ open date, there are lots of top 25 games to predict and gamble on, including in the Southeastern Conference.
South Carolina State Bulldogs (1-2) at South Carolina Gamecocks (2-2; 0-2 SEC)
Thursday, Sept. 29 | 7 p.m. ET | SEC Network | Williams-Brice Stadium; Columbia, S.C.
Although WynnBET has lines for FCS games this year, these rescheduled games don’t have them. The South Carolina Gamecocks looked good in their win over the Charlotte 49ers last week. They’re playing a South Carolina State Bulldogs team that is well-coached under Oliver Pough, in his 21st year. However, it won’t matter. South Carolina wins an ugly blowout.

Eastern Washington Eagles (1-2; 0-1 Big Sky) at Florida Gators (2-2; 0-2 SEC)
Sunday, Oct. 2 | Noon ET | ESPN+ | Ben Hill Griffin Stadium’ Gainesville, Fla.
While South Carolina’s game is rescheduled from Saturday to Thursday, the Florida Gators’ game is rescheduled from Saturday to Sunday. Coming off last week’s loss to Tennessee football, Billy Napier’s team finally gets a break with the Eastern Washington Eagles. This is a top 20 FCS team under sixth-year head coach Aaron Best, but Florida’s offense has emerged, so they’ll dominate.
