Tennessee football Week 4 NFL recap: CBs dominate
Former Vols who did not play
Joshua Dobbs – QB – Cleveland Browns
Once again, Josh Dobbs did not play. The only former Tennessee football quarterback currently in the NFL watched the Cleveland Browns lose 23-20 to the Atlanta Falcons. Although the Browns are 2-2 now, it’s unlikely Dobbs is able to take the starting job away from Jacoby Brissett. Cleveland is biding its time until Deshaun Watson comes back.
Cade Mays – OL – Carolina Panthers
With Velus Jones Jr. playing Sunday, Cade Mays is the last player from the Vols in this past year’s NFL Draft who isn’t on a practice squad to not see the field. The Carolina Panthers lost 26-16 to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, and while Mays isn’t playing, Baker Mayfield and Matt Rhule are both in hot water, so that could be interesting to see.
Former Vols on practice squads
Micah Abernathy – DB – Green Bay Packers
Theo Jackson – DB – Tennessee Titans
John Kelly – RB – Cleveland Browns
Jonathan Kongbo – DE – Denver Broncos
Khalil McKenzie – OL – Baltimore Ravens
Injuries are starting to pile up for Tennessee football in the NFL, limiting the star power Vol fans are used to seeing at the next level. However, they have some other players beginning to emerge, so plenty of guys have promise. If Alvin Kamara can get healthy, then things could really get interesting in November when Cordarrelle Patterson comes back.
