Lost to Ole Miss Rebels 22-19

A few bad breaks are keeping Kentucky from being atop our SEC Power Rankings. They beat Ole Miss in every way except the score. A safety and two missed extra points made the difference, then they turned it over with a chance to win late after the game-winning touchdown was called back. It was unlucky SEC football at its worst.

Had Kentucky won, no matter the way it happened, they would’ve jumped ahead of Tennessee football. However, undefeated teams are automatically above teams with a loss in these power rankings, so we had to knock Kentucky down to No. 5. The loss was truly that heartbreaking.

Still, Mark Stoops has a very good team, one that’s top 25 caliber, and they really didn’t lose out on anything they want to accomplish. With Georgia not looking good right now, the SEC East remains in play. They just have to beat Tennessee football on the road before focusing on UGA.

Until then, though, they should be in good shape, as their next two games are at home against South Carolina and Mississippi State. Although MSU is dangerous, playing in Lexington, Ky., should help. Then they get a bye before visiting the Vols, a huge advantage, and with UGA their last SEC game of the year, that could decide the East if they win the next three.
