Tennessee football falls after not playing in Week 5 SEC Power Rankings
Lost to Georgia Bulldogs 26-22
Yes, playing Georgia close is enough to move Missouri up a spot in our SEC Power Rankings. Maybe it shouldn’t be, but the fact of the matter is Mizzou is a missed false start non-call and a missed chip shot field goal away from being 4-1 right now. They would be way higher on this list if those two plays had gone differently.
That’s how small the differences are right now. However, we can’t ignore the fact that they’re the only team in the league below .500 right now and that they have lost three of four. Their 40-12 loss to the Kansas State Wildcats is also a hideous look.
UGA just struggled with the Kent State Golden Flashes, so playing them close isn’t that impressive. As of right now, they remain a circled win for Tennessee football. Eli Drinkwitz could still be in trouble in his third year, as there’s no top 25 finish on the horizon.
Things could get easier, though. Mizzou next visits a Florida Gators team that is up and down, and then they host Vanderbilt and visit South Carolina. Winning those two games would right the ship and get them to .500, but really righting the ship would be trying to pull off the upset this week against the Gators.
