Tennessee football falls after not playing in Week 5 SEC Power Rankings
Lost to Mississippi State Bulldogs 42-24
Going back to Arkansas, Texas A&M is more like the team that lost to the Appalachian State Mountaineers than the one that beat two ranked Power Five foes. Arkansas is part of that, as are the Miami Hurricanes, and the truth of the matter is neither team belongs in the top 25. As a result, Texas A&M is still in the bottom half of the SEC.
Jimbo Fisher’s team had no business getting blown out like that against Mississippi State. It’s one thing to lose to a Mike Leach-coached team, but Fisher’s offense should’ve done way better given how Leach turned it into a shootout. If the excuse is they’re about defense, well, they should slow down Leach’s air raid.
Neither happened, and now A&M is just one game above .500. Now, two Power Five wins puts them over other teams, and they have the head to head with Arkansas, but that Group of Five loss is still a bad one. Fisher is not delivering based on the contract he got.
It’s not about to get any easier either. A&M has to visit Alabama, who will have revenge on its mind with or without its starting quarterback. Then it has a bye before visiting South Carolina, and with the way they have looked, that could be a toss-up. Ole Miss right after looks like a loss too, but maybe a bye after an Alabama blowout will help.
