Tennessee football falls after not playing in Week 5 SEC Power Rankings

Defeated Auburn Tigers 21-17

Well, in a way they’re very scary for Tennessee football, as their only loss is by one to the Florida State Seminoles because of a series of special teams errors in their opener. However, after last weekend, they don’t look as scary. Brian Kelly is still having some growing pains his first year as LSU’s head coach, and that was clear.

LSU was extremely lucky to escape the Auburn game with a win. Hey, it’s a road win against an SEC team, so they shouldn’t apologize too much. They’ve won four straight, and they did beat a Mississippi State team that looks great now pretty significantly.

As a result, while it’s not enough to move them up our SEC Power Rankings, even as another team has a loss, it shouldn’t derail their momentum either. It shows how crazy these power rankings are with parity. With October in full swing, though, we’re about to get a much clearer picture of how things are, as we can still rely on head-to-head for now.

In LSU’s case, that visit from Tennessee football is huge this weekend, as a top 10 win would do wonders for the program. After that, they visit Florida. Then they host Ole Miss before a bye week, which they come out of with a visit from Alabama and a trip to Arkansas. As a result, they are starting a five-game stand that will define their season.
