Tennessee football at LSU: 10 keys to the game
9. LSU’s potential lack of confidence vs. Vols’ potential overconfidence
Both teams will be equally motivated to play the game, but how they approach it could be different. LSU struggled to put away a bad Auburn Tigers team last week, undoing all the excitement that came with them beating the Mississippi State Bulldogs. That Florida State lost, making them look worse, could only have hurt that confidence.
On the other hand, Tennessee football is riding high as ever. Technically, the Vols have two top 25 wins, one on the road, and they are two weeks removed from finally beating the Florida Gators. Everybody on Rocky Top is starting to get greedy in Josh Heupel’s second season.
However, the Vols still have some glaring issues, one of their top 25 victims, the Pittsburgh Panthers, have proven to be massively overrated, and we don’t know yet what to make of Florida. Still, some fans are already looking ahead to next week against the Alabama Crimson Tide since Bryce Young is now banged up.
That’s incredibly stupid. The fact of the matter is LSU is still a dangerous team and playing at home. Do they have the confidence necessary to play with the Vols, though? They haven’t backed down from anybody yet, but struggling with a team like Auburn under a first-year head coach could affect your mentality.
