No, the odds aren’t great, but LSU’s personnel seems to make it pretty clear Jalin Hyatt will find the end zone. The Tigers have struggled with speedy wide receivers all year, starting with their season-opening loss to the Florida State Seminoles, when they let Ontaria Wilson catch seven passes for 102 yards and two touchdowns.
Hyatt is Tennessee football’s clear-cut slot receiver. LSU plays a lot of press-man coverage, and when that happens, slot receivers and tight ends are able to sneak out into open space and make a ton of plays. Given what he has done recently, Hyatt is bound to find the end zone.
Two weeks ago, against a Florida team that struggles more with wideouts, Hyatt still went over 50 yards receiving. He also has three touchdowns on the year already. LSU is the perfect opportunity for him to have a breakout game, one in a meaningful outing.
Another part of this is Hyatt is going to be in a lot more designed plays, and Josh Heupel, coming off a bye, has had two weeks to draw some things up. As a result, if he catches LSU off-guard, while the tight ends will help, Hyatt will be the main big play guy. Jaylen Wright could be a threat too, but Hyatt is the best bet.
