It’s revenge time for Alabama, right? Nick Saban returns home to face the first assistant to ever beat him in Jimbo Fisher. Beyond that, Fisher and Saban had massive wars of words this past offseason, which only increased the intensity behind this matchup. Everybody has been waiting for it.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t have the luster it should’ve had. That’s because Alabama, while 5-0 and back at No. 1 in both polls, is banged up at quarterback with Bryce Young. Last week was their first week truly looking like Alabama against a legitimate team this year. The hype on their side is lost.
Meanwhile, Texas A&M has no hype at all. Here is a team that just got blown out by Mississippi State and has already lost to the Appalachian State Mountaineers. Still, as crazy as it sounds, they are still in the SEC West race. A win for a second straight season against Alabama would give Fisher back all the momentum he needs.
Prediction
Texas A&M gets torched by drop-back passers. They are solid against mobile quarterbacks. Ask Arkansas’s K.J. Jefferson. Either Young will play hurt, or inaccurate backup Jalen Milroe will come in. Either situation plays into A&M’s hands.
On top of that, Alabama may be looking ahead to Tennessee football since this game doesn’t have the hype it had in the offseason. As a result, A&M covers. However, don’t get too excited. They won’t win or even make it close. It’s just that their defense will return to form. Meanwhile, they won’t score, which is why this game hits the under.
Alabama: 31 Texas A&M: 14 (Texas A&M +24.5; Under 51)
