Is it really plausible that Tennessee football is undefeated when they get set to face Alabama next week? Coming off a bye, the Vols are favored to do just that. However, they have to go down to Death Valley to beat a team they haven’t beaten in a place they haven’t won since 2005.

Josh Heupel’s team had an early bye, but it came at the right time, as lots of players were somewhat banged up. Now they have their first true SEC road test of the year and are ranked No. 8 in both polls. A solid win could move them close to or even in the top five, so watch out.

On the other side, LSU looked hideous last week in its win over Auburn. However, they have rebounded from their loss to the Florida State Seminoles in their opener to win four straight. Brian Kelly’s first team in Baton Rouge, La., is undefeated at Death Valley and has been dominant in the second half, and they are facing an awful pass defense.

Prediction

Given what we saw from the Vols’ pass defense two weeks ago, expect LSU to torch them too. Meanwhile, the Tigers will continue their elite second-half performances and shut down the Vols in that half. However, both things still won’t be enough. The Vols’ bye makes all the difference.

With the extra preparations and LSU’s struggles last week, Tennessee football will hit some major shots early. That’ll build them a huge first-half lead. Jayden Daniels being banged up will make it tougher for him to keep them in it. LSU rebounds in the second half to make it a shootout, but the comeback will be too little too late. UT covers, and the game hits the over.
