Tennessee football at LSU: Last-minute predictions
3. Byron Young and Tyler Baron will combine for three sacks.
Both defensive ends came up with a sack against Pitt. Tyler Baron even had a strip-sack. However, outside of that game, they have consistently gotten hurries, Byron Young in particular, but could never close the deal. The story has been Tennessee football’s edge rushers constantly knocking on the door. That changes today.
LSU is one of the worst teams at protecting the quarterback. They have allowed 16 sacks on the year. Some blame play-calling, and others blame Jayden Daniels’ lack of pocket awareness. Both things can be true. However, in this game, it’ll also be the offensive line.
The line already entered this game banged up, and now offensive tackle Will Campbell is out. That gives the Vols a chance to wreak havoc around the edges, and Young and Baron will be the biggest beneficiaries of that. Look for them to attack from start to finish. Young will return to looking like an All-SEC edge rusher.
Of course, similar to Anthony Richardson and the Florida Gators, the Vols are still facing a mobile quarterback, so they have to contain him. However, Richardson had only been. sacked three times all year, so his mobility was used correctly. Daniels hasn’t perfected that just yet, and as a result, the Vols will take advantage.
