Tennessee football’s top five performers in 40-13 win at LSU
4 receptions, 63 yards, 2 TDs
Yes, without Cedric Tillman, Tennessee football’s other main wideout and their primary slot receiver stepped up. Bru McCoy got the yards. Jalin Hyatt got the big plays. Hyatt’s first catch was a 45-yard touchdown reception. It happened right after the Vols had a fourth down stop and were able to cash in.
Josh Heupel made a brilliant play-call there, and Hyatt just used his speed to win a matchup on the outside and catch the pass. That’s really what broke the game open, as it put the Vols ahead 20-0 in the second quarter. However, Hyatt wasn’t done on the day.
On the opening drive of the second half, Hyatt had two catches. One was a two-yard grab. The other was a 14-yard catch he took into the end zone for a score, which broke the game open, as the Vols were able to go up 30-7 at that point.
We should give Princeton Fant and Ramel Keyton props for their play in this game, as Fant had two catches for 13 yards. Keyton had two catches for 19 yards, but one was an 11-yard grab to set up Rocky Top’s first touchdown. Keyton actually caught Hooker’s first two passes. However, Hyatt and McCoy were the stars.
