Senior. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Defensive end. 839. Byron Young. 2

5 tackles (2 solo); 2.5 sacks

He’s been knocking on the door all year, and Byron Young finally broke out for Tennessee football. Facing a team without one of its key offensive tackles that has a quarterback with poor pocket awareness is the perfect combination, and Young took advantage. The Vols had five sacks as a team on the day, and Young had half of them.

Young’s sacks were also at crucial times. The first came when LSU had the ball 3rd and 4 on the UT 34-yard line. They were almost in field goal range, and while they were trailing 20-0, their propensity to come back made them dangerous. Well, Young sacked Jayden Daniels for an eight-yard loss, forcing them to punt on that drive.

For his second sack, Young should’ve done enough to kill LSU’s first touchdown drive. He and Bryson Eason sacked Daniels to bring up a 3rd and 13 in the red zone. LSU converted, though, and scored a touchdown the next play to cut it to 20-7.

However, Young’s final sack really solidified the Vols’ control in this game. LSU had the ball near midfield and was going for it on 4th and 10 down 20-7. A touchdown or even a field goal really would’ve made it close. Instead, Young sacked Daniels, making the play to set the Vols up for a field goal to go up 23-7 at halftime.
