There is no new number of undefeated teams in the SEC after Week 6. However, Tennessee football staying within that group of teams certainly was newsworthy. Sure, the Vols were favored in their matchup last week, but by all accounts, it was a toss-up, so winning the way they did definitely had an impact.

Our SEC Power Rankings had to move a bit because of that. Funny enough, we could still apply full-on head-to-head logic after the top four teams to rank all 14. However, given the way things have gone recently, that just wouldn’t make sense. So, for the first time all year, we’ve abandoned the circular logic part of the rankings.

How teams have looked in their wins and recency bias have taken over in terms of the criteria here. Let’s take a look at the impact that’s had on Tennessee football and the rest of the league. Here are our SEC Power Rankings following the sixth week of the college football season.

Josh Heupel’s Tennessee football Volunteers made the case again to be atop the Southeastern Conference for Week 6.

3-3 (0-2). Previous: . Commodores . 14. team. 887.

Lost to Ole Miss Rebels 52-28

To be fair, they hung tough for a half. However, the Vanderbilt Commodores couldn’t even use the benefits of a bye week to avoid being blown out by the Ole Miss Rebels. They are one of two teams in the league without an SEC win, so of course those two teams belong at the bottom of our SEC Power Rankings.

Clark Lear is still building a good program, and three wins is already an accomplishment, especially since all are by more than their two wins last year. However, Vandy still has tons of issues, and they are almost certain to return to being the whipping boys for Tennessee football again.

Before that point, though, they have to watch themselves fall below .500, as their next matchup is a trip to the Georgia Bulldogs. However, then they have a chance to make some noise with a trip to the Missouri Tigers, a visit from the South Carolina Gamecocks, a trip to the struggling Kentucky Wildcats and a visit from the struggling Florida Gators.
