Lost to Tennessee Volunteers 40-13

Well, LSU really does have problems. They have that one win over Mississippi State, which we can’t ignore, but in the past two weeks, they have struggled to put away a bad Auburn team, and they lost to Tennessee football in a blowout. Brian Kelly’s team was always going to be rebuilding, but a blowout like that is bad.

Beating Mississippi State, winning more recently than Arkansas, is what puts them ahead of the Vols in our SEC Power Rankings. Also, to be fair, Tennessee football blew them out because of two big special teams plays and a couple of missed fourth downs. Otherwise, that game would have been interesting.

Also, to be fair, that’s the first time LSU lost all season where they should’ve lost. That loss to the Florida State Seminoles remains a fluke by any metric possible. As a result, while they did drop a lot in our power rankings, the season isn’t a complete loss. There’s still a lot to play for.

Up next for LSU is a trip to a struggling Florida team. Then they have their two biggest tests of the season: Ole Miss and Alabama at home. Kelly’s team is definitely capable of pulling off an upset somewhere this year, so watch out. Right now, though, a blowout home loss keeps them here.
