Tennessee football moves back up SEC Power Rankings with win at LSU
Lost to South Carolina Gamecocks 24-14
So they didn’t have Will Levis. That may be an excuse, but these SEC Power Rankings have always been based on how a team is playing at the moment, and if Kentucky can’t beat South Carolina without Will Levis, then we have to rank where they belong without Levis. As a result, they had to take a significant dive.
Of course, Mark Stoops’ team is an injury and a bad break or two against Ole Miss away from being undefeated right now, but all of a sudden, they don’t even look like a toss-up game for Tennessee football. Now, fully healthy, they are. We just don’t yet know if that’ll be the case.
Maybe there’s a Chris Rodriguez Jr. curse. Ever since he has come back, the ‘Cats are 0-2. Unlike Ole Miss, though, Saturday’s loss didn’t look flukey at all. Kentucky just got beat. They win off ground and pound football and tough defense, and it’s not enough right now.
Things aren’t about to get any easier either. This week, they have to deal with a visit from Mississippi State. Then they have a bye before visiting Tennessee football, and don’t forget Georgia in November is still on the schedule. Lucky for them, there is also a trip to Missouri and visits from Vanderbilt and the Louisville Cardinals, so 7-5 is still the base.
