Tennessee football moves back up SEC Power Rankings with win at LSU
Defeated Kentucky Wildcats 24-14
How about Shane Beamer’s team! One week was enough to shoot them right up our SEC Power Rankings. That may seem excessive, especially since Kentucky didn’t have its quarterback, but South Carolina dropped 24 points and beat Kentucky on the road. That has to count for something when doing these rankings.
More importantly, this team doesn’t have a bad loss. They fell to 1-2 after falling to Arkansas and Georgia. There’s no shame in that. Since then, they have won three straight. Before this past week, they had back-to-back 50 point games, and then they beat a ranked team on the road.
What more can South Carolin do to prove that, at least for right now, they belong in the top half of the league? At this point, Tennessee football can’t take lightly the fact that they travel to South Carolina later in the year. This could end up being a brutal matchup for them.
Chances to stay up here are about to come. South Carolina gets a bye this week before hosting Texas A&M. That’s a toss-up, but then they host Missouri, visit Vanderbilt and visit Florida. Mizzou and Vandy are must-wins for a bowl, as Tennessee football and the Clemson Tigers are their two games to close the season, but beating A&M gives them some house money.
