Another game in which Lee Corso picked Tennessee football, it was actually the first time in a while he had picked the Vols and the first time he ever did a headgear pick for UT. Dating back to 1996, he seemed to always hate the Vols when College GameDay covered any of their matchups.

However, Corso had no choice here. UT was 6-1 and ranked No. 4 in both polls. A loss by the Penn State Nittany Lions earlier in the day meant they’d move up to No. 3 the following Monday, and a second straight national championship was still on the table. Only the allure of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish made this one relevant.

Notre Dame came in 5-3 in Bob Davie’s third season. However, after a 1-3 start, they had won four straight, and it seemed as if they were turning things around. Well, the Vols managed to turn things back around on Notre Dame. In what may have been the swan song of the best decade of the modern era for UT, the Vols dominated.

Tee Martin had one of his most complete performances, and the Vols beat the Irish 38-14. This was the first meeting between the two schools since the 1991 Miracle at South Bend, and it represented one of the great endings to a decade. Although Notre Dame entered the game ranked No. 24, this started a four-game losing streak for them to end the season 5-7.
