Joining Tennessee football as one of the two top 10 matchups for us to predict this week is a huge Big Ten East matchup between the Michigan Wolverines and Penn State Nittany Lions. In terms of the impact on the overall season, this may be a bigger matchup since it’s a divisional game. It’s also crucial since the Ohio State Buckeyes are still on the slate for both teams.

Anyway, Michigan comes into this game ranked No. 5 in the AP Poll and No. 4 in the Coaches Poll. Jim Harbaugh’s team finally put everything together in a blowout win last Saturday at the Indiana Hoosiers. However, this is their first real test all year, as they still haven’t faced a top 25 team.

On the other side, Penn State is ranked No. 10 in both polls. James Franklin’s team just won an ugly matchup with the Northwestern Wildcats and also barely got past the Purdue Boilermakers at the beginning of the season. Like Michigan, they haven’t really been tested.

Prediction

In all honesty, these teams are too evenly matched and untested in their styles, so the real move is to stay away from this game. However, with that in mind, hedge and pick Michigan to win outright at home, but give Penn State the points. Also, with both teams’ focus on defense, the game will hit the under. Michigan wins a thriller late.

Michigan: 24 Penn State: 21 (Penn State +7; Under 50.5)
