When has this annual game ever been a top 25 matchup? It’s usually the most forgettable interdivisional game in the SEC. Well, not this year. Ironically, while both teams are better than they almost ever are, one is still disappointed about where it’s at right now.

The Kentucky Wildcats should be undefeated. Ranked No. 22 in both polls, they are a slew of mistakes at Ole Miss and a quarterback injury against the South Carolina Gamecocks away from still being in the SEC East race. Next week’s bye is desperately needed, but before that happens, they have to face a red-hot top 25 opponent.

If not for a loss at LSU, the Mississippi State Bulldogs may have been the best team in the SEC. Blowout wins over Texas A&M and Arkansas can’t be ignored, and Mike Leach’s offense has really taken off. Ranked No. 16 in the AP Poll and No. 17 in the Coaches Poll, this team will have a top 10 case with a win this week.

Prediction

Despite their struggles, Kentucky will still be tough for Tennessee football after their bye. They honestly have enough before the bye to pull this one out. Will Levis is back, and they are due a win with Chris Rodriguez Jr. back, so as long as they don’t make a slew of mistakes, this game is theirs. They’ll win it the Mark Stoops way, so Leach’s offense will sputter. That means take the under.
