With the most hype it’s had in maybe two decades, Tennessee football and the Alabama Crimson Tide will renew their once great rivalry, and it’s back in its original spot, the Third Saturday in October. Both teams come in undefeated and ranked in the top 10.

Josh Heupel’s Vols, ranked No. 6 in the AP Poll and No. 8 in the Coaches Poll, head into this matchup on the heels of a 40-13 win against the LSU Tigers on the road. They are off to their best start since 2016, the last time they were ranked getting set to face Alabama.

Nick Saban’s team, ranked No. 3 in the AP Poll and No. 1 in the Coaches Poll, is coming off a 24-20 win against the Texas A&M Aggies. Alabama has won 15 straight against Tennessee football dating back to Saban’s first year, 2007. Here is all the information you need for this matchup.

3:30 p.m. ET. 829. Saturday, Oct. 15. 5-0 (2-0). 6-0 (3-0). Neyland Stadium. 839. Knoxville, Tenn.

This is the highest combined ranking in the history of this series. It’s also the 11th time both teams are meeting in the top 10. The last time they were both ranked, 2016, was also a top 10 matchup. Alabama won that game 49-10.

Another drought for the Vols is losing their last four top 10 matchups at home, including that 2016 game. They also lost 2005 to the Georgia Bulldogs 27-14, 2004 to the Auburn Tigers 34-10 and 2002 to the Florida Gators 30-13. Their last top 10 win was a 37-20 victory over UGA in 1999.

These two could see each other again, regardless of what happens in this matchup, in the SEC Championship. That obviously depends on whether or not the Vols can somehow get past Georgia on the road at the beginning of November.

Regardless of what happens, though, Rocky Top has taken a huge leap forward under Josh Heupel. After all, this is their second time hosting College GameDay this year, and they have three wins over teams that were in the top 25 when they faced them.
