After their star slot receiver had over 200 yards and five touchdowns against the Alabama Crimson Tide, Tennessee football likely isn’t going to have to work to hard to appeal to high school slot receivers across the country. It didn’t take long for them to land one out of South Carolina.

Mazeo Bennett became the Vols’ third commitment for 2024. A four-star wide receiver across all services out of Greenville, S.C., Bennett stands in the range of 5’11” and 6’0″ and weighs in the range of 165 to 175 pounds.

This is the first commitment for Tennessee football on the recruiting trail for any class ever since the season kicked off. Bennett announced his commitment Sunday afternoon during a ceremony at his school and then confirmed it on Twitter. Afterward, he did an interview about his decision.

What stands out is Bennett saying he had basically made his decision since the Vols beat the Florida Gators three weeks ago. The Alabama game took things to another level, but beforehand, the hype behind Florida was more than enough to sweep up recruits. Imagine what Saturday did.

Obviously, given his frame, Bennett can play the exact role Jalin Hyatt plays, and given what Hyatt has been doing, every slot receiver in the country will likely be trying to become a part of Josh Heupel’s system soon enough. Who wouldn’t want to be part of it?

Beyond Hyatt, the Vols currently have Jimmy Holiday and Squirrel White, but they’ll obviously need more help by the time 2024 rolls around, and Bennett is the only other guy who plays in the slot currently committed to a future class. Here’s a look at his highlight reel from this season so far.

As you can see, Bennett has great hands, great vision and the right amount of speed to be effective on deep passes, everything Heupel needs in his system. He is also clearly a team player, highlight his blocking ability first on the video.

Simply put, Bennett is the perfect fit for Tennessee football and this system. It was also perfect timing for him to commit given what took place Saturday. As great as things are on Rocky Top, the future is looking even brighter.
