Even in a top five win to push themselves into the top five for the first time since 2005, Tennessee football isn’t 100 percent clicking as a program. Don’t take that as a negative, by the way. Nobody ever is clicking that much. However, the Vols have a ton of things going for them that nobody saw possible just 16 months ago.

As we get set to break down our stock report for Rocky Top, we still had enough to draw some negatives, although they are relative to the program in general. Those negatives were also hard to identify. After all, given what just happened, there’s not much to criticize about the program.

Most things with the program are through the roof, and as you’ll see, the positives on Rocky Top are much more wide-ranging than the negatives. However, we did find enough to balance things out, so let’s go ahead and dive in. Here is our stock report for Tennessee football after their sixth game of the 2022 season.

It’s hard to find anything wrong with Tennessee football after the Volunteers’ 52-49 win over the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Overall program stock report: All-time high

Obviously all-time high is going to be the report. The Vols beat the Alabama Crimson Tide for the first time since 2006. They are in the top five for the first time since 2005. It’s the first time since 2001 that they are in the top five this late into the season, and they are 6-0 for the first time since 1998, the year they won the national title.

It’s not like they beat Alabama when they fell off as a program either. This team was undefeated heading into the game and was No. 1 in the Coaches Poll. At No. 3 in the AP Poll, they have the highest combined ranking of any team the Vols beat since the Florida Gators in 2001.

Also, that makes Alabama just the third team with a No. 1 ranking Tennessee football ever beat, following the Auburn Tigers in 1985 and the LSU Tigers in 1959. With only two ranked teams left on their schedule, the Vols are looking at 10 wins minimum, and anything less than 11-1 at this point would be a disappointment.
