Stock up

Hendon Hooker to Jalin Hyatt

This one’s pretty obvious. Jalin Hyatt alone could be the rising stock after six catches for over 200 yards and five touchdowns. Hyatt has seven touchdowns the past two games, as he caught two touchdown pass against the LSU Tigers. With Cedric Tillman out, Hyatt has stepped up for Tennessee football in the slot in a big way.

The person throwing him the ball has been as critical. If Hyatt had five touchdown catches, that means Hooker had five touchdown passes, and indeed he did. All of his touchdown passes the past two weeks have been to Hyatt, and this is shaping up to be the best duo in the nation.

Offensive coaching

A huge reason for the success of Hooker to Hyatt is the play-calling. It’s hard to overstate just how elite the Vols’ coaching has been. Josh Heupel and Alex Golesh continue to draw up the perfect plays for Hooker and Hyatt, particularly with the way they spread the field and run the wideouts extremely close to the sidelines.

Much of the play-calling wasn’t on display as often at LSU because of all the early mistakes that put the Vols in control. However, it was there on Saturday, and honestly, the Vols should’ve had two more touchdown drives. Golesh is looking more and more like a genius.
