Tennessee football stock report following Week 7 of 2022
Stock down
Secondary
By far the most obvious weakness of Tennessee football, this is somewhat unfair. The Vols were playing without starting safety Jaylen McCollough and then without their top two cornerbacks, Warren Burrell and Kamal Hadden. Burrell is out for the season. Then Christian Charles got hurt in the game, so they had a lot working against them.
All of that would suggest this unit is a stock to buy. However, we have seen enough from it throughout the year to say the stock is down. This is just a weakness of the Vols that they won’t be able to overcome this year, so they have to keep masking it.
Defensive ends
There is a lot to say about Tennessee football’s pass rush over the weekend, but what was blatant was the inability of the Vols’ edge rushers to wrap up Bryce Young. Now, to be fair, that’s a testament to how great Young played, and just a week before, Byron Young had two and a half sacks, so it may have just been the opponent.
However, the elite play at LSU may also have just been the opponent. As a result, for now, we can just simply say the edge rushers’ stock is down. The linebackers got better pressure on Alabama over the weekend, despite not being able to close the deal that often.
