Tennessee football cements its spot atop SEC Power Rankings after Week 7
Lost to LSU Tigers 45-35
The Florida Gators and LSU Tigers was a battle of teams who lost to Tennessee football, and Florida was the one that suffered. With their only SEC win coming by one score right now to the Missouri Tigers, they actually belong down here in our SEC Power Rankings.
Sure, the Utah Utes look like more of a quality win for them after beating the USC Trojans, but Billy Napier’s team has some issues. We said at the start that circular logic is really thrown out the window in the No. 5 to No. 11 range, but really it’s No. 5 to No. 10. That’s because Florida’s only SEC win is over a winless team in the league.
As a result, right now, Florida hasn’t proven much more than Auburn. Only that win over Utah is keeping them one spot ahead in our power rankings. Maybe playing Tennessee football closer than any other SEC school favors them too, although they mostly got blown out in that game.
Now they have a much-needed bye week themselves, but things don’t get any easier coming out of it, as they have their annual matchup with Georgia. Following that is a trip to Texas A&M, so they could easily be 4-5, and they still have to visit the Florida State Seminoles. They need to win one or two of those games.
