Defeated BYU Cougars 52-35

Finally, a brutal stretch came to an end for Sam Pittman’s team. Arkansas scored an impressive road win at the BYU Cougars, a team Tennessee football couldn’t even beat at home under Jeremy Pruitt in 2019. It’s not your typical BYU team, as they do have three losses, but they did also beat the Baylor Bears earlier in the season.

When you combine that with the fact that the Hogs remain the only loss for the Cincinnati Bearcats and also have a win over South Carolina that doesn’t look so bad anymore, you could say they have a chance to right the ship. However, they haven’t proven enough yet.

As a result, the win was only enough to move Arkansas up one spot in our SEC Power Rankings. What really hurts them is every team they lost to during that skid has lost its more recent outing, including their two most recent losses to Alabama and Mississippi State. Both lost over the weekend, and Texas A&M had a bye but lost to Alabama the weekend before.

Now comes a bye that the Hogs desperately need. Then they have a chance to really right the ship with a trip to an Auburn program that just seems ready to have the bottom fall out. They do host the other elite Independent team beyond BYU, though, the Liberty Flames after that, and then they host LSU and Ole Miss before visiting Mizzou. That puts 8-4 on the table, but 9-3 is possible.
