Defeated Mississippi State Bulldogs 27-17

Finally, things are back on track for Kentucky. Don’t sleep on this team. They are a series of fluke special teams plays and an injury to Will Levis away from being undefeated right now, and they showed that on Saturday. Mark Stoops’ defense put on a masterful performance in a home win over Mississippi State with Levis back.

That was enough to move UK back into the top half of our SEC Power Rankings. In a crazy way, the SEC East isn’t out of the picture either. Both of UK’s losses are to West teams. If they beat Tennessee football and Georgia, well, one of those two teams is going to beat the other, and they’ll just need that remaining team to slip up somewhere.

Maybe the Vols beat Georgia and slip up late at South Carolina, or maybe Georgia slips up against Florida or at Mississippi State. There are some options. Obviously, the key first, though, is for Kentucky to right the ship and get fully healthy, and that’s where this weekend comes into play.

UK has a bye so Levis can get fully back into the swing of things. Then they visit Tennessee football. That game is not impossible, and if they can somehow pull it off, at Mizzou and Vandy at home will be the next two games, so they could be 8-2 before hosting UGA. Things aren’t over yet for this team. Watch out.
