Did not play

Even by not playing, South Carolina is looking pretty good right now. Say what you want about Shane Beamer’s team, but Kentucky is a huge Power Five win, and since that’s their most recent performance, they’re going to have to lose before we can drop them down our SEC Power Rankings. UK winning this past weekend only further cements this spot.

Yes, South Carolina got beat by Arkansas, but their other loss is to Georgia. What’s the shame in that? An underrated aspect of this team is that before upsetting Kentucky, it scored 50 points in back to back weeks. How could you look at that and just completely write off this team?

You can’t. They scored a big win and then hit a bye at the perfect time to get healthy, refocus and then go play the rest of their schedule. That’s more time for Spencer Rattler to get into a rhythm, and it gives them a chance to finish strong and prove Beamer was the right hire.

Things start off with a very intriguing matchup against Texas A&M this week. That’s not a gimme for South Carolina, and if they win that, then they host Mizzou before visiting Vanderbilt and Florida, all three winnable games. Could they get to 8-2 before their final two games against Tennessee football and the Clemson Tigers? It’s possible.
