Tennessee football’s five key players to watch for vs. UT-Martin

Obviously, slowing down UT-Martin’s passing attack is the most essential part of Tennessee football putting the game away early. As mentioned, the Skyhawks run a standard pro-style offense, so they don’t need linebackers in spy or anything like that. At the same time, UT-Martin has great protection, so the pass rush isn’t where it’s at.
In this one, the secondary just has to step up. As banged up as it is, that’s the key to making sure UT-Martin is out of it by the end of the first quarter. Trevon Flowers is the most important part of that equation, as he is the one veteran who is out there and fully healthy in this game.
The Vols may or may not have Jaylen McCollough, but since he missed last week, he won’t be in rhythm. They are without Warren Burrell for the rest of the year, and now Kamal Hadden and Christian Charles are banged up, so there are serious problems at cornerback.
As the center fielder for the secondary at free safety, Flowers becomes the most important player for the unit. While the secondary struggled last week, that was more about Bryce Young making great plays. This week, they should be able to react a bit better, as UT-Martin is like a lesser Pittsburgh Panthers team. Flowers should be able to pounce.
