Talk about brutal. A historic performance from Tennessee football against the Alabama Crimson Tide contributed to a historically bad week for us, as we got every part of that game wrong. That was part of us starting last Saturday 0-12 n the spread and over/under combined. The one saving grace is we went 7-3 straight-up to help the moneyline.

Week 7 performance (30% on spread and over/under)

  • Spread: 2-8
  • Over/Under: 4-6
  • Moneyline: +13.4% (134.37 profit if $100 bet on every game)

Overall performance for the year (52.9% on spread and over/under)

  • Spread: 41-38-1
  • Over/Under: 42-36-2
  • Moneyline: +7.2% ($543.52 profit if $100 bet on every game)

In spite of all that, we are above water, still turning a profit, in every aspect of betting for the season. We get another big week to predict this Saturday, as there are four games involving two top 25 teams Saturday, three from other conferences. There are also four games involving two SEC teams.

Then we have the Vols facing the UT-Martin Skyhawks. That makes nine games for us to predict overall. As usual, we’ll pick them in the order they are scheduled with the exception of Tennessee football’s matchup, which we’ll call at the end. Let’s go ahead and dive in.

A Tennessee football FCS matchup with the UT-Martin Skyhawks leads our Week 8 Volunteers, Southeastern Conference and top 25 gambling predictions.

We start things off immediately with an epic game. Who saw this being a battle of unbeatens at the beginning of the year? The Syracuse Orange got a huge win over the N.C. State Wolfpack last week, but that was at home and without Devin Leary. Now, ranked No. 14 in both polls, Dino Babers’ team hits the road for a much tougher test.

On the other side, the Clemson Tigers held off the Florida State Seminoles and are ranked No. 5 in both polls. Just as you thought Dabo Swinney’s team was slipping, he’s got this team rolling as well as ever, particularly because of their elite defense, and this would be their biggest win.

Prediction

The last time Tennessee football started 6-0, they beat Syracuse to open the season. Syracuse won the Big East that year. It won’t happen in the ACC this year. This is Syracuse’s first real road game (UConn doesn’t count), and Clemson is too loaded defensively. As a result, the Tigers will shut them down up front, so take them to cover easily, and take the under.

Clemson: 27 Syracuse: 10 (Clemson -14; Under 49.5)
