Tennessee football: Photo gallery from Vols’ 65-24 win vs. UT-Martin
It wasn’t Alabama, but it was homecoming, and Tennessee football was able to put together an entertaining performance as the Vols beat the UT-Martin Skyhawks 65-24 Saturday afternoon. When is scoring 60 to move to 7-0 on the year while your team is ranked in the top five not fun? Who cares who you played?
Rocky Top scored a touchdown on seven of its first eight possessions, eight of its first nine if you don’t count the drive at the end of the first half in which they ran out the clock. On their other drive, they had a field goal. Hendon Hooker, Jalin Hyatt and Ramel Keyton continued to put on a show, and even the backups continued.
Many fans and alumni got to receive a warm welcome back to campus to witness this, and for some of them, it was obviously reminiscent of the times they were there. Let’s look back on the day. Here is a photo gallery from Tennessee football’s second win in history over the Skyhawks.
Vol fans desperately needed a day like this one after so many intense games, starting with the Florida Gators back in September. Sure, a bye broke them up, but the LSU Tigers and then the Crimson Tide in back to back weeks made this difficult. This was a mind-clearer for everybody before they have to return to SEC play.
Beyond the fans, players needed this too. They now have five straight SEC games without a bye to close out the season, so getting this one over early was crucial to making it effectively a bye. Having as many people healthy as possible was going to be the focus given the next two weeks.
Now, Tennessee football has to host the Kentucky Wildcats before visiting the Georgia Bulldogs. They still have a visit to the South Carolina Gamecocks on the schedule too, so things are about to get tough, but these next two weeks will define the season. This was a great day for fans to enjoy before they begin that stretch.
