Tennessee football’s stock report following Week 8 of 2022

Stocks to buy

Cornerback

Okay, the secondary is still going to be below average, but it’s not going to be as bad as it seems right now. Tennessee football should have Kamal Hadden and Christian Charles back against Kentucky. Brandon Turnage went out early in this one, which allowed UT-Martin to be another team that had over 300 yards passing against them.

With Hadden, Charles and Turnage all healthy, the play should be much better. Also, Jaylen McCollough could end up back on the field at safety, giving the cornerbacks another safety blanket, so don’t be surprised if this group is shockingly better than expected on Saturday.

Punt returning

Dee Williams made his debut against the LSU Tigers and immediately returned a punt 58 yards. Against UT-Martin, he returned a punt 33 yards. He has been knocking on the door for a while now, and nobody is noticing. At some point, he’s bound to run one back for a touchdown, which could be huge for the Vols depending on when it is.

Of course, Williams being able to go also gives the Vols more help at cornerback, so like Princeton Fant two slides earlier, he is a part of both of these stocks. However, his punt returning is the real headline here, and he’s bound to make a huge splash at some point.
