Reality finally set in for Lane Kiffin’s team. Maybe his obsession with Tennessee football finally got the best of him after all. Ole Miss wasn’t looking great anyway. They struggled to put away Auburn the week before Saturday, and they looked ugly for a half at Vanderbilt the week before that. Oh, and they had no business beating Kentucky.

The luck was bound to run out, and it ran out against a very good LSU team on the road. Last week, they just didn’t seem like they belonged among the three undefeated teams in the league. As a result, they dropped to what seems like a more accurate place for them in our SEC Power Rankings, and that was a long time coming.

One thing hurting them is so many games before a bye. They have to visit Texas A&M this week, their ninth straight game, and while A&M is struggling, Ole Miss needs a week off before beginning their home stretch. If they can win this one, they aren’t out of it, though.

All the Rebels need is for Alabama to beat LSU after that. Then Alabama heads to town on Nov. 12 in a game that could determine who wins the West. However, they still have a trip to Arkansas and a visit from Mississippi State to close out the year, so it’s not going to get any easier from here.
