Tennessee football vs. Kentucky: 10 keys to the game for Vols and Wildcats
8. Health of both teams
Part of Kentucky coming off a bye week means they are getting healthier, and both teams have been banged up due to injuries facing key players. It’s been obvious with Kentucky. Will Levis, who has taken a ton of hits this year, had to miss their game against the South Carolina Gamecocks, which they lost.
Of course, Levis came back the next week and helped them beat the Mississippi State Bulldogs, showing just how good Kentucky is with him. On the other hand, the Vols have been without their go-to receiver, Cedric Tillman, since they began SEC play, and their top cornerback, Warren Burrell is out for the year.
Beyond Burrell, they were without their No. 2 cornerback the past three weeks in Kamal Hadden, and they lost Christian Charles against the Alabama Crimson Tide. Then there was the Jaylen McCollough off-the-field issue at safety.
As a result, the question comes down to how healthy Kentucky is at quarterback and how healthy the Vols are in the secondary with the knowledge that Burrell won’t be back. Tillman being banged up too is a question, as he could come back. Kentucky has suffered the most devastating injury, but the Vols have suffered more.
