Tennessee football, SEC, top 25 picks and bets for Week 9 of 2022
Can October please end? While Tennessee football has made history with this month to have its best season since the 1998 national championship so far, our predictions have been awful. The Vols have been part of that by overachieving. It should’ve bottomed out two weeks ago, but it got worse this past weekend.
Week 8 performance (29.4% on spread and over/under)
- Spread: 1-8
- Over/Under: 4-4-1
- Moneyline: -57.6% (Lost $461.14 if $100 bet on every game)
Overall performance for the year (50.6% on spread and over/under)
- Spread: 42-46-1
- Over/Under: 46-40-3
- Moneyline: +1% ($82.38 profit if $100 bet on every game)
We’re now basically losing money. You have to hit 52 percent on spread and over/under picks to make a profit, and combined, we’re under that. Our moneyline took a huge hit last weekend too. Well, now its time to rebound with some Halloween magic, which is also on Rocky Top.
With Tennessee football hosting another ranked team at night, we’ve got some fun games to cover. Four SEC teams are on a bye, and the other 10 play each other. Then there are two non-conference top 25 games, giving us seven to predict overall. As usual, we’ll pick the games in the order they are scheduled and then close with the Vols.

Both teams are coming off a bye week and looking to right the ship. The Arkansas Razorbacks seemed to do that with a win at the BYU Cougars two weeks ago to snap a three-game losing streak. Had Sam Pittman’s team not lost to the Texas A&M Aggies, this season would be looking pretty good right now.
On the other hand, the Auburn Tigers are also under .500 and on a three-game losing streak, but they are holding above water right now under head coach Bryan Harsin. Talk about a change in a between him and Tennessee football head coach Josh Heupel over who is in better shape. Winning here would keep them afloat.
Prediction
This is where the wheels come off Auburn. They should be 2-5 on the year, and those last three losses were just the start. K.J. Jefferson should be healthy off the bye week, and the Hogs will regroup and take advantage of Auburn struggling. Because Auburn won’t score enough and Arkansas will use some clock, the game hits the under, but they cover easily.
Arkansas: 31 Auburn: 14 (Arkansas -3.5; Under 62)
