The third most played rivalry in SEC history will add another chapter Saturday night. Tennessee football welcomes the Kentucky Wildcats to Rocky Top in a game that has the most magnitude in the series since Robert Neyland and Bear Bryant were facing off in the early 1950s.

UT, ranked No. 3 in both polls, comes into this one on the heels of a 65-17 win against the UT-Martin Skyhawks for homecoming. The Vols are two weeks removed from arguably their biggest win of the century, a 52-49 thriller against the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Kentucky comes in ranked No. 19 in the AP Poll and No. 17 in the Coaches Poll. They had a bye last week but are an injury to their quarterback and a series of special teams miscues away from being undefeated. Here is all the information you need for Tennessee football’s matchup.

5-2 (2-2). 7-0 (3-0). 839. Knoxville, Tenn.. 7 p.m. ET. 833. Neyland Stadium. Saturday, Oct. 29

It’s just the third game in the series with both teams ranked. The Vols won both games, and they were in 1950 and 1951, when UT won back-to-back national championships. Kentucky, led by Bear Bryant, won the 1950 SEC Championship, and the Vols won the 1951 SEC Championship.

Last year, the Vols had their first signature victory of the Josh Heupel era, upsetting Kentucky 45-42 on the road when they were ranked in both polls. Mark Stoops is 2-7 against the Vols and 0-2 against them when his team is ranked.

Both teams have dealt with injuries but should be in much better shape in this one. Kentucky quarterback Will Levis got hurt earlier this month and missed one game. However, he played their most recent game and then had a bye week to fully recover.

Meanwhile, the Vols have been without go-to receiver Cedric Tillman since Week 3. He should be good to go Saturday. Their secondary also returns lots of talent with Kamal Hadden, Christian Charles and Jaylen McCollough all likely ready to go. They have all missed the past two weeks.

Obviously, Heupel’s team is thinking about an SEC Championship this year and potential College Football Playoff appearance. Kentucky, though, technically isn’t out of the SEC East race. An upset here would put them right back in it if they could find a way to beat the Georgia Bulldogs in three weeks and a couple more upsets happen.

Of course, Tennessee football will visit Georgia next week in what could be a huge top five matchup. Meanwhile, the Wildcats will visit the Missouri Tigers and then host the Vanderbilt Commodores the next week before facing UGA.
