Tennessee football or Georgia in SEC Power Rankings after Week 9 of 2022?

Four teams didn’t play in the SEC, including half the top four, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t a wild weekend in the league. Tennessee football didn’t do anything to lose its spot with a fifth victory over a ranked team this year, scoring a blowout against one of them for the second time. That only kept the top more stable.

However, our SEC Power Rankings did have a couple shakeups, largely because of one major upset nobody saw coming. That forced almost every spot from No. 6 to No. 13 to be shaken up just a little bit. Another game solidified the nail in the coffin for one of the elite programs.

Spoilers aren’t always on here, but for the second straight week, we might as well let you know that nothing changed about the Vols. They remain atop the league. The top two teams are facing off this weekend in the SEC East Game of the Century. See how other teams compare to Tennessee football in our Week 9 SEC Power Rankings.

This was the second bye for the Vanderbilt Commodores because they played in Week 0. Clark Lea’s team most recently put up a fight against the Missouri Tigers, but they are still clearly the worst team in the league right now. On a four-game losing streak, they are the only SEC team with no Power Five wins.

As a result, Vandy clearly belongs at the bottom of our SEC Power Rankings, and not playing wasn’t going to change that. Now, we have mentioned in the past that this team is still clearly better than last year’s team, and that hasn’t changed. It doesn’t mean they’re good.

Coming off the bye, they have a visit from the South Carolina Gamecocks next followed by a trip to the Kentucky Wildcats before hosting the Florida Gators and Tennessee football. At least their next three games are all against SEC East teams that lost over the weekend. However, that doesn’t mean they have a shot in any of them.
