Tennessee football or Georgia in SEC Power Rankings after Week 9 of 2022?
Defeated Kentucky Wildcats 44-6
They were No. 1 last week, so of course Tennessee football was going to be No. 1 this week. The Vols scored their fifth victory of the season over a top 25 foe. Sure, only two of them are still in the top 25, but that’s partially because UT knocked the other three teams out with blowout wins.
This time, it was against Kentucky, and Josh Heupel’s team proved it can win with the game slowing down. They also proved that their defense is elite now, and that’s a scary thought for anybody remaining on their schedule. Any objective person looking at resume and style points would have the Vols No. 1 across the board.
However, a low preseason ranking is holding them back right now, which is why they are behind Georgia and have to make a case to be ahead of the Ohio State Buckeyes. They can finally end all of that speculation this week, though, in the SEC East Game of the Century we talked about.
Yes, Tennessee football visits Georgia. If the Vols win, an undefeated season is likely guaranteed, as they close things out with Mizzou at home and then at South Carolina and Vanderbilt. Even a loss keeps them in the playoff race, but a win would do even more wonders for this program.
