Tennessee football or Georgia in SEC Power Rankings after Week 9 of 2022?

Lost to Missouri Tigers 23-10

So it turns out South Carolina really was overrated. Shane Beamer’s team was on a four-game winning streak and had reached the top 25 thanks to huge wins over Kentucky and Texas A&M. However, Kentucky didn’t have Will Levis, and A&M is clearly collapsing as a program, so we didn’t know what to make of that record.

Well, last weekend showed it was a fluke. South Carolina lost to a Missouri team that consistently stayed just one spot out of the last spot in our SEC Power Rankings. They lost by two touchdowns at home, proving further that those other two wins were complete flukes.

For a minute, it was possible Tennessee football would have to worry about facing South Carolina on the road later in the year. Now, everybody is rightfully writing that game off as a win. In fact, anything less than 11-1 would now be a disappointment for the Vols because South Carolina no longer poses any threat.

By the way, a bowl game isn’t guaranteed anymore either. They visit Florida and Vandy over the next two weeks, and if they can lose like that to Mizzou, they can lose to Vandy on the road. Florida is a likely loss. Then they host the Vols and the Clemson Tigers, so Beamer could be on the hot seat again when it’s all over.
