Tennessee football or Georgia in SEC Power Rankings after Week 9 of 2022?
Defeated South Carolina Gamecocks 23-10
Finally! After knocking on the door for weeks, Mizzou put it all together. Of course, they did snap that three-game losing streak against Vanderbilt last week, but that game raised more concerns than celebrations, as struggling with Vandy was a huge issue. Well, it’s gone from them struggling with Vandy to them being on a two-game winning streak.
By controlling South Carolina on the road, Eli Drinkwitz’s team moved away from the bottom of our SEC Power Rankings. What has to hurt the most is they could easily be 7-1, and they should be 6-2. At the worst, though, 5-3 should be the case, as they never should’ve lost to Auburn.
Drinkwitz and the Tigers were in their first non-close game since Week 3. Their defense appears to be legit, and they may have used the bye week before Vandy to truly get better across the board. What they have shown from two Saturdays ago to last Saturday certainly suggests that.
This puts a bowl back on the table, but it’ll be tough. A visit from Kentucky is next for Mizzou before a trip to Tennessee football. Then they host the New Mexico State Aggies and Arkansas to close out the season. New Mexico State gets them to five wins, so they need to upset either UK or Arkansas at home to reach six. It’s a stretch, but it’s not out of reach.
