A much-needed bye for Mike Leach’s team as they were on a two-game losing streak shockingly helped them in our SEC Power Rankings. As we mentioned with Florida, who hit a par with Georgia blowing them out, movement among other teams in the league was going to vault some teams that didn’t do anything to fall.

Obviously, not playing qualifies as not doing anything to fall. Leach’s program is struggling with bad matchups and on the road, and those things make it clear why Tennessee football fans are low-key happy now they didn’t land him in 2018, even if it meant suffering through three years of Jeremy Pruitt.

Josh Heupel is somewhat of a Leach protege, but he’s added newer elements to his offense. MSU still has some severe limitations despite how good Will Rogers is. However, coming off the bye, they have a great opportunity to get back on track pretty quickly.

Up next for them is a visit from Auburn. They also have the East Tennessee State Buccaneers on the schedule. As a result, seven wins are automatic. However, they also have to host Georgia and visit Ole Miss at the end of the year, so getting to eight will still be difficult.
