Tennessee football: What CFP rankings should be after Week 9 of 2022
No. 2 AP (tied) and Coaches Polls
Okay, so the Ohio State Buckeyes don’t have that much better of a resume than Clemson. Both teams are coasting off blowing out Penn State, and Ohio State needed until the fourth quarter to do it. That close contest is why they should be down here at No. 3 in the first round of College Football Playoff rankings Tuesday.
What’s keeping them up here, though, is how they are just obliterating other teams. After winning ugly against Notre Dame in the opener, they won six straight games by at least 29 points until last weekend, and that was against Penn State on the road, so it’s still a quality win.
On the other hand, Tennessee football has multiple more impressive wins. Playing in the SEC alone does that, and the Vols should clear-cut be ahead of them in both polls. Perhaps playoff committee will come in and set up what’s right. OSU still has a lot more to prove.
Of course, with OSU and Michigan being undefeated but playing questionable schedules, playing each other should help the winner in the end. However, that’s about all either team gets, as the Big Ten is way down this year. Whichever team goes likely should have to finish undefeated in the regular season.
