Both teams are coming off a bye, and we seem to be getting vibes similar to the old-school Alabama Crimson Tide and LSU Tigers games. It’s ironic that another No. 1 vs. No. 2 regular season matchup is happening this weekend while they play and not involving them, as the previous two did involve them, in 2019 and 2011.

Alabama remains in control of its own destiny to reach the College Football Playoff after that loss to Tennessee football. The Tide are No. 6 across the board, and a win Saturday will likely at least push them up to No. 5. Nick Saban’s team had a lot to clean up during the bye, but they should be in much better shape now.

LSU, meanwhile, is also in the running for some things. They also lost to Tennessee football, but at No. 10 in the CFP, that early Florida State Seminoles loss isn’t hurting them. First-year head coach Brian Kelly’s team controls its own destiny to win the West, is No. 15 in the AP Poll and No. 17 in the Coaches Poll.

Prediction

Although LSU runs the ball extremely well, they don’t protect the quarterback at all. Alabama, outside of the Tennessee game, has an elite pass rush. Will Anderson Jr. will dominate Saturday, and that will make the difference. However, Alabama’s offense will struggle on the road. As a result, the under is the best play here, but the Tide pull it out late. LSU covers, though.

Alabama: 27 LSU: 21 (LSU +13.5; Under 56.5)
