In one sense, this is a game featuring two teams desperately trying to get back in the win column. However, one has shown a lot of promise to be good this year, and the other is an absolute disaster of a program. That doesn’t mean this game won’t be interesting, though.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs are back home after a two-game losing streak on the road before a bye last week. Mike Leach is another coach who was high on Tennessee football’s radar once but who the Vols are fine without now that they have Josh Heupel. This win could get MSU back in the top 25 and on track for a strong finish.

On the other side, Auburn is now undergoing a coaching change, as they fired Bryan Harsin. Tiger legend Cadillac Williams is now the interim head coach. Auburn will likely make a great hire in the offseason, so teams like Tennessee football need to pounce while they’re down, but could firing Harsin reinvigorate them and give them momentum?

Prediction

In any other setting, Auburn would be a trendy pick to play above their heads with Williams taking over. However, Mississippi State is coming off a bye, and they’ve gone over 40 in every home game this year. As a result, the Bulldogs will win convincingly. Auburn will make some plays offensively, finally, for this to hit the over, but Leach covers.
