This is the second non-conference top 25 game we are covering that doesn’t have any College Football Playoff implications. In fact, it doesn’t have any championship implications now, but it’s an intriguing matchup. Both have looked worse against different common opponents, so it’s hard to know where to go.

Dave Clawson’s Wake Forest Demon Deacons, ranked No. 21 in the CFP, No. 20 in the AP Poll and No. 19 in the Coaches Poll, should’ve beaten the Clemson Tigers, as they lost in overtime. The former Tennessee football offensive coordinator’s program was rolling until a shocking blowout loss at the Louisville Cardinals last week.

On the other side, the N.C. State Wolfpack, No. 22 in the CFP, No. 21 in the AP Poll and No. 20 in the Coaches Poll, just barely squeaked by the Virginia Tech Hokies last Thursday. They lost by two scores to the Syracuse Orange and Clemson, but they had both games on the road.

Prediction

Hot take: Neither team should be in the top 25. The best win between them is Wake Forest by one against Liberty. Still, Wake just got blown out by Louisville. N.C. State may have looked bad against VT, but with more rest and playing at home, the Wolfpack will win this game. Backup M.J. Morris torches Wake’s questionable defense so take the over.

N.C. State: 35 Wake Forest: 28 (N.C. State +4; Over 54)
