Tennessee football: Photo gallery from Vols’ 27-13 loss at Georgia
It’s a loss Tennessee football fans would like to forget. The Vols fell to the Georgia Bulldogs 27-13 on the road in a game that wasn’t even that close. They certainly didn’t look like their No. 1 ranking in the College Football Playoff was warranted, but Georgia’s No. 1 ranking in the AP and Coaches Polls definitely were.
Nonetheless, it was a part of history. The Vols were No. 2 in the AP Poll and No. 3 in the Coaches Poll, and UGA was No. 3 in the CFP rankings. That meant it was a No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup in the regular season, and Rocky Top taking part in something like that Josh Heupel’s second year on the job is something nobody saw coming.
ESPN College GameDay was on hand for a third Tennessee football matchup this year, and the Vols continued to take center stage in front of a national audience. Appreciate that fact, and it’ll make looking back on the day a bit more pleasant. Take a look at our photo gallery of Tennessee football’s first loss of the 2022 season.
Although the loss may not end up being too devastating after all in terms of the College Football Playoff rankings, the way the Vols lost has them playing from behind. Hendon Hooker’s Heisman Trophy odds may have collapsed as well. That was probably the worst part of all this for UT fans.
On the other hand, it was a loss to the defending national champions who are undefeated and will clearly be considered the No. 1 team in the nation across the board next week. How could anybody say this loss kills everything the Vols were hoping to do? They can’t.
In fact, it’s always possible a rematch occurs. Tennessee football could do what Georgia did last year, making this game forgettable. Still, it was one worth looking back on, and the Vols have shown a lot in regards to where they are as a program.
